Designing in Plastics 2008 – Workshops

Rapid manufacturing – Materialise
Materialise explains how Additive Layer Manufacturing (ALM) can slash lead times, cut costs and create competitive advantage – such as by greater design freedom and weight saving. Delegates will see examples, including a folding chair built in a single piece using selective laser sintering; and a number of ‘directly printed’ consumer products that could not be made conventionally.

Materials – DuPont
Polymers can deliver real cost benefits – and contribute to innovative design – if they are used appropriately. DuPont’s workshop will examine some real-life examples, showing the approaches that were developed to deliver these benefits – including weight saving, part consolidation and performance improvement.

Materials selection – Distrupol
This session will explain how to specify an exact grade of material, based on cost and performance – which is crucial to design success.

Design for Manufacture – Holloid Plastics
‘Value engineering’ is of growing importance in modern design, and Holloid shows how it can be delivered by plastics.
