Designing in Plastics 2008

'Designing in Plastics' attracted more than 70 delegates when it ran back in March 2007, proving that design engineers are hungry to learn more about the design potential offered by polymers. The event will run again in September 2008.

The 2007 event explained the fundamentals of designing in plastics. This time, the aim is to guide design engineers through some of the advanced moulding and materials technologies.

Questions that the event will attempt to answer include:

  • Gas injection moulding: what is it, how can it cut part cost? And what is water injection?
  • What are nanocomposites, and are they really on the verge of commercialisation?
  • Why might you need an electrically conductive polymer?
  • What coatings are available to improve the qualities of plastics?
  • How important is it that an engineering component also looks good – and how is that achieved?
  • What new techniques are available in composites – and how can long fibres boost performance?

At 'Designing in Plastics 2008', a set of presentations and practical workshops will explain the latest technologies – to help design engineers put them into practice and enhance their designs.
